while they were gone

while they were gone i woke up to a quiet house, didn’t have to fix breakfast or chocolate milk, took uninterrupted showers every morning, and i went on a date with robert almost every night. while they were gone i only had to vacuum and mop once, scrub the shower once, run the dishwasher once, and wipe the counters once. while they were gone i refinished two tables, mounted some artwork, and got all of the laundry done.

while they were gone i missed being awakened in the morning to the sweet sound of their voices. i wished to hear their laughter, i missed wiping the counters after meals and sweeping the floors. i realized that i don’t mind if my house isn’t always in order and perfectly clean. while they were gone i was reminded again of what a blessing they are and and how this precious time flies by so quickly. reminded  of how much i desire to spend time with them to raise them up to follow hard after Jesus. while they were gone i fell more in love with God, my husband and with my children. i longed to see their faces and hug their necks and kiss their chubby cheeks. i looked forward to having them all home this summer and next year. while they were gone i committed to not take for granted this wonderful life that God has given me and to be thankful for every moment. i will not forget all the things that God taught, revealed, and reminded me of; while they were gone.
